Behind the scenes: we took a look at Plasser & Theurer production

We went straight to the source, to the Plasser & Theurer production plant in Linz, where we got to see three machines just before they were handed over into service: two brand new and one after a complete retrofit.

Unimat 09-2X-4×4/4S Dynamic

A universal tamping machine from Austrian manufacturer Plasser & Theurer, belonging to the Unimat 09/4S series. It’s a „three-in-one“ machine — combining powerful plain-track tamping, switch tamping, and dynamic track-bed stabilization in a single work operation.

Ballast Master 410
A machine for profiling the ballast bed. The Ballast Master 410 evenly spreads and shapes the ballast, helping to maintain the stability of the track geometry.

RM 80 UHR
Originally a machine from 1998, which underwent a complete retrofit at Plasser & Theurer.

A retrofit at P&T means modernizing the machine while retaining its basic construction. The machine gains new features and improved safety elements, its availability and performance increase, and because the original construction is preserved, the machine often keeps its existing operational approval as well. The result speaks for itself: at first glance, you wouldn’t recognize the RM 80 UHR as a thirty-year-old machine. The machine is intended for GJW Praha.
