Operational maintenance

We provide operational maintenance for rail vehicles, carried out according to the manufacturer’s prescribed scope based on operating hours. For working vehicles, this is based on the cycles completed by the given unit. As part of our long-term planned cooperation with the manufacturer of special rail vehicles, we keep sets of spare parts, filters, and the like in stock.

We see the corresponding service offering as an integral part of representing Plasser & Theurer on the Czech and Slovak market. Following the manufacturer’s guidelines and in cooperation with its technicians, we provide warranty and post-warranty service to ensure the machine functions correctly and operates safely.

For a full-scope general overhaul, we address every component of the machine. In the first phase, the machine is completely disassembled; the frame and cabins are sandblasted, checked by ultrasound, and re-welded where necessary.

We test the individual components and, where needed, carry out a general overhaul or propose an adequate replacement. This way, we can transparently track the ongoing costs of the job, and the customer decides on the technical solution and the final economic scope of the project.

The individual components are then ordered, and once they are in stock, we begin rebuilding the machine.

A general overhaul includes completely new electrical wiring and a new hydraulic and pneumatic system. As part of the modernization, cabin upgrades are also possible, including new control panels and updated control systems.

Once the machine is completed, updated documentation is provided for any changes made. Among other things, the goal of a general overhaul or modernization is to maintain the machine’s status from the perspective of the homologation (type-approval) process.

At our service centre, we carry out the removal, general overhaul, and reinstallation of tamping units on Plasser & Theurer special rail vehicles.

Depending on the quality of ongoing maintenance, tamping units should undergo a general overhaul after reaching one million cycles. Such units are sent to the manufacturer in Linz, Austria, where a complete overhaul is carried out, including subsequent testing.

Depending on the scope of the requested 4- to 8-year service package, the units are regularly inspected by our technicians based on the number of tamping cycles completed.

For partners using Plasser & Theurer equipment, we can provide servicing for axles and entire bogies. Where necessary, a bogie is removed and the machine fitted with a replacement bogie so it can still be moved on the local siding. Simpler repairs are handled directly at our Lovosice service centre, while more complex ones are coordinated with the manufacturer or specialized companies.

In some cases, the operator requires modernization of the machine — either complete or of certain parts, such as replacing guidance, control, or measuring systems. An integral part of such modernization is a check of the overall technical condition.

An important service for long-term planning of servicing, maintenance, and the associated operating economics is an overall machine audit. During this, we assess the complete technical condition against the manuals and documentation. We then prepare a report on the technical condition of individual components, consisting of more than 200 assessed points. The result is a list of service tasks with an approximate price estimate, including a specification of spare parts or their replacements, along with any necessary modifications. The customer can then make decisions and better plan individual tasks together with us.

You’ll encounter the same professional, helpful approach not only at our service centre but also during a visit from our mobile technician. This service is available to you on working days. They will determine the cause of any fault on site and help resolve it quickly. An added benefit is the support and presence of a Plasser & Theurer technician.
