The Swiss company Speno International specializes in the design and manufacture of machines for reprofiling railway tracks and switches. This equipment is either sold or provided as a service. Reprofiling railway tracks and switches is one of the operations involved in regular transport-route maintenance. Specifically, it involves working the rail running surface using grinding or milling technology. Regular reprofiling extends the service life of the rail. Another benefit is a reduction in dynamic overload at the wheel–rail interface, as well as a longer interval between wheel turning. Ultimately, correctly performed reprofiling can reduce traction energy consumption. Grinding and milling the rails ensures smooth vehicle movement along the track and prevents more serious damage to it. As a result, it is an effective measure for reducing the economic costs of rail transport.
